Why I Chose Yoga and Why More Men Should Try It

My Journey Into Yoga
I get asked all of the time, “you’re a guy, why do you do yoga?” which often bums me out to be honest. It reminds me that a lot of men are living with no regard towards their physical, mental, and spiritual health. There is a shift, however, with more men coming to realize how much of a transformational practice yoga can be.
I first came to yoga for the physical benefits. My routine at the time involved calisthenics and body-weight exercises. Eventually I found yoga and instantly fell in love with the practice. I love that the various poses help with strength, flexibility, and balance. As well as how customizable it is based on what you want to work on for that day or any period of time.
As I continued to practice, I found that my stress and anxiety levels went down significantly. I learned how to breathe properly and meditate. So not only was I feeling great physically, but I started feeling better mentally as well. I experienced a connection between my mind and body that I never experienced before. So, I decided to go through yoga teacher training. There, I discovered how deep and spiritually fulfilling yoga can be as well.
Why More Men Should Try Yoga
Modern yoga is quite an exceptional phenomenon, as it can be adjusted to fit anyone’s lifestyle and motivations. Not into the spiritual aspect? Great, yoga is a fantastic system of exercise by itself. Seeking gentle flexibility training with less endurance required? There are styles of yoga that fit that. These are just two examples of how fluid the entire practice of yoga can be. I firmly believe that every single person on earth should be practicing, especially men.
In my opinion, yoga makes us better men. It helps us become more in tune with our bodies. We know whether we need to challenge ourselves that day or take it easy. We are more in tune with our minds and emotions as well. Beyond that, it promotes healthy weight loss and strength building. It builds healthy posture and in turn reduces chronic pain, especially in the back. Many men have also reported higher productivity at work, better quality of sleep, and a better sex life as well, due to the endurance building and stress reduction that a good yoga practice provides.
If you haven’t yet, I really recommend that you just give it a shot. Men’s Natural Yoga provides a virtual yoga studio experience, where you can try yoga for yourself in your own home. We also have meditations, nutrition and recipes, life and spiritual advice, and even some other kinds of workouts. In addition, we are also a social media platform, connecting men across the globe to share their practices and experiences. There’s really something for every man in yoga, and nothing to lose, but a lot to gain.
Such a great realization. Thanks for sharing.
