Spirits of the Forest

spirit of the forest

“Here is, in truth, the whole secret of Yoga, the science of the soul. The active turnings, the strident vibrations, of selfishness, lust and hate are to be stilled by meditation, by letting heart and mind dwell in spiritual life, by lifting up the heart to the strong, silent life above, which rests in the stillness of eternal love, and needs no harsh vibration to convince it of true being.” -Patanjali

Contemplation in the forest

Beautifully spoken by one who came before

For those will come in the future

When one is presented the opportunity in life to heal the spirit, it is an act of grace. It is not to say that the journey will be easy. Preparations will be required. The obvious needs of the physical body must be met. A sturdy frame, a healthy gut, a mobile physique. The mind must also be attended to. Develop a sense of stillness, a calming of emotions (positive and negative), focused awareness. Both the body and the mind can be taken care of in any environment. Each has its challenges. In the city you have the distractions of the concrete jungle. In nature, you have the confrontation of solitude.

I have been graced with the opportunity for the past month to experience (one foot at least) in nature. On an expansive property, on a fairly secluded island, (yet still connected), I took the opportunity presented to connect nature with my soul. Even if one does not care for the lack of luxuries, taking the courageous step to experience the sounds of the forest may help to form a more formidable constitution. I hope to take this energy back with my to streets, and share some insights I have gained. Stay tuned for more posts and videos on this topic.
