Be One with Nature

Overall men’s health and wellness has been my project for over two decades.  Much of that time has been spent at personal development. After taking my yoga teacher training and primal health coach certification, I considered myself capable to start helping others. Much of my work is focused on yoga, particularly foundational style instruction and restorative. However, I have a passion for primal health coaching, which is on broad based health regime including: physical health (fitness and nutrition), mental health, social health (friendship, occupation, entertainment) and also environmental health (wholistic perspective of your place with nature).

Environmental Health

I have not written much about environmental health here, so I kindly ask for you to indulge me even though the overall concept of this site is for yoga.

I had the pleasure to go to Calgary and then Kananaskis, Alberta a few weeks back. In Calgary, we had the pleasure to stop at Weaselhead. The beach was small, with the river water cold, but the sun was shining bright. We were in distance to the highway, so that was a bit odd, but as long at the driver’s didn’t mind (i doubt they could see), we enjoyed ourselves. It was a bit “cruisy”, but that’s to be expected somewhat.

It was when we arrived to Kananaskis that we found a little piece of heaven. Being able to get away from the city (while still having some internet connection), was grand. I know some would prefer to have zero connection, but we both felt comfortable being in control of our devices. We combined hiking with a trip to the Nordic Spa; sat by the river and went canoeing; we ate beef and s’mores. It was truly a beautiful getaway.

I highly attest that everyone should go and spend some time in nature. Away from it, while not necessarily renuniciating it away. Treat the environment as your mediation focus, embody that which is around you. It can be challenging doing a physical practice with bugs, so be less concerned about the hatha side of things. Allow yourself to be involved in a sitting or a moving (hiking) meditation. You may just be amazed at how much yoga has to with being one with the environment around you.
