Chanting Practice

I had the honor and privilege to attend and present at The Yoga Teacher Conference in Colorado in April. One of the sessions I attended led by Allison Rissel, Yoga Tools for Your Yoga Business, she discussed a practice that helps her stay grounded and motivated. She practices chanting. It reminded me how much I enjoy the vibration, energy, and practice of chanting. I have some favorite songs I like to sing/chant, so decided to start a daily Chanting Practice during the month of May. Would you like to join me?
One of my favorite chants is the Gaytri Mantra. Here are the words/lyrics:
Om bhur bhuvah svaha
tat savitur varenyam
bhargo devasya dhimahi
dhiyo yo nah prachodayat
Om- I invoke the all pervading
Supreme divinity, which pervades
the physical world, the mental
world, the celestial and the
higher spiritual worlds.
I remember that Supreme Sun,
the creator, the preserver, the
glorious, Adorable and the
Lovable one.
I Meditate on that Shining
Intelligent and the Effulgent
Power and invoke that Supreme
Helpful Divinity.
Give us, intelligence,
understandings, courage, and
guide us, inspire us, and
enlighten us.
For me, this mantra evokes lightness, inspiration, and gratitude. The version that I enjoy listening to is by Tina Malia & Shimshai on the album titled Jaya Bhagavan.
What chants do you like? Do you attend Bhakti Yoga classes?
