What Happens When Men Start at the Beginning
A Remarkable First Month in Denver
One month ago, we launched our first live Men’s Natural Yoga classes in Denver at Merritt Wellness. While I hoped the community would grow, I have to admit that it has expanded much faster than I anticipated.
We have been averaging twelve men in each class, and every week brings new conversations with men interested in joining us. Watching this community begin to take shape has been both inspiring and deeply rewarding.
What surprises me most is how many of these men are completely new to yoga.
Traditionally, many men feel hesitant about stepping into a yoga studio for the first time. There can be uncertainty about the postures, concern about not knowing what to expect, and the natural discomfort that comes with trying something unfamiliar. Yet here, in Men’s Natural Yoga, these men are diving in headfirst.
That willingness to show up, be seen, and explore something new speaks to a level of courage and confidence that I find remarkable. Rather than fear or self-consciousness, I see enthusiasm. These men are eager to learn more about themselves, improve their health, and discover tools that can help them live fuller, more balanced lives.
Equally exciting is the fact that we are beginning at the beginning.
Many participants arrive without fixed ideas about what yoga is supposed to be. That gives us a unique opportunity to explore the practice with fresh eyes. Together, we are learning about yoga’s history, philosophy, and purpose. We are exploring movement, breath, awareness, and personal growth without the burden of preconceived expectations.
Our conversations have been just as meaningful as the physical practice itself.
Each class includes time to learn foundational postures, understand how they work, and discover why they matter. We have explored the nature of breath and its powerful connection to the nervous system, learning how conscious breathing can help regulate stress and support overall well-being.
We then conclude each class with approximately thirty minutes of sound bath meditation and sensory awareness practice. Steven and Cory have been doing a wonderful job facilitating these experiences, skillfully guiding participants toward deeper focus, relaxation, and presence. Their contribution has become an essential part of what makes these gatherings so special.
As we continue building our team of instructors and leaders, I have no doubt that this community will continue to grow. More importantly, I believe it has the potential to become a powerful network of supportive men who are committed to personal growth, authentic connection, and shared exploration.
What we are witnessing right now is only the beginning.
I feel incredibly grateful for everyone who has chosen to be part of this journey, and I cannot wait to see what unfolds in the months and years ahead.
